What is colostrum?
If you know about colostrum, you'll know it's worth more then gold! Colostrum is truly an incredible thing!
It is the "first milk" that your baby will receive.
When your baby is born, if you breastfeed or express your baby will be getting colostrum, for the first 3-5 days until your "milk" comes in. You may also notice you have colostrum during your pregnancy!
A lot of you may even have done antenatal expressing to save some of that pure gold for once bub is born (after 37 weeks pregnant and with clearance from your medical professional)
Colostrum is very thick and yellowish in colour, it is PACKED with nutrient-dense qualities and is full of antibodies.
The illnesses that you have experienced in your lifetime, your body has fought off and created antibodies to - these are then passed to your baby through colostrum, protecting them from illness (how insanely amazing is nature?!).

So how do you store colostrum?
Colostrum is generally expressed and stored in a plastic sterile syringe. These can only be used one time and then need to be thrown away. Being plastic, means it is made with potentially toxic materials and poses a huge environmental issue, as it’s a single-use item.
Haakaa has created the first ever silicone colostrum collector! This product is made of silicone meaning it is toxic-free, environmentally friendly and can be reused and sterilized!
This amazing and versatile product can be heated and frozen, which is so important if you are antenatally expressing and storing milk for bubs arrival!
